Introduction
In this article, we will provide information about upcoming health research events and webinars for the year 2023. These events cover a range of topics related to health research, including social media recruitment, vector-borne illnesses, justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion in the faculty research workforce, innovations in quality forums, and the SMART IRB Agreement. Virtual TIN Webinar: Social Media Recruitment with Meta Restrictions

The first webinar on our list is focused on social media recruitment with Meta restrictions. The webinar will be presented by Brooke Crockett, BA, and will provide valuable information on how to create Meta ads for study recruitment. In January 2021, Facebook (now Meta) changed their privacy policy, making it more challenging to target ads to people based on certain characteristics. This update has made targeted recruiting for clinical trials more difficult. During this presentation, Brooke will explain how to build a social media ad for recruitment while also focusing on workarounds for Meta restrictions.
K-State Olathe Campus One Health Day: Vector Borne Illnesses

Join us for the KC One Health Day event focused on vector-borne illnesses and their impact on global health. This event aims to educate participants about the parasites, viruses, and bacteria that cause diseases like malaria, dengue, and Lyme disease, as well as the vectors that transmit them. Participants will also learn about the various factors that determine the distribution of these diseases and the challenges they pose for outbreak prevention and management. One Health Day is an international event that highlights the interrelationships between human, animal, and environmental health. The Kansas City One Health Day is a local celebration of this event, organized by K-State, BioNexus KC, the KU Edwards Campus, and the University of Kansas Medical Center.
Zoom Research and Discovery Grand Rounds: Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion in the Faculty Research Workforce: Call to Action

The November Research & Discovery Grand Rounds session will feature a panel discussion on the topic of justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion in the pediatric faculty research workforce. The panelists are authors of the article titled “Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion in the Pediatric Faculty Research Workforce: Call to Action” published in Pediatrics journal in September 2023. The panelists, who are members of the Society for Pediatric Research’s Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Committee, will discuss the committee’s work, recommendations, toolkit, and strategies for action at different institutions. The panelists include experts from various institutions such as the University of Southern California, Indiana University, Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, University of Minnesota Medical School, Drexel University College of Medicine, and Children’s National Hospital.

The SMART IRB Agreement, launched in 2016, has been a significant development in streamlining reliance on single Institutional Review Board (IRB) review for multi-site studies. In this webinar, Barbara Bierer, MD, Nichelle Cobb, PhD, and Polly Goodman, CIP, will discuss the proposed revisions to the SMART IRB Agreement version 3.0. These revisions aim to enable federal agencies and other institutions to sign on to the agreement. The webinar will provide a summary of the proposed changes, information on how to submit public comments, an overview of the process and requirements for signing and re-signing the agreement, and an introduction to new and existing SMART IRB resources and educational tools.
